How are the teams winning the toss and losing?
Well South Africa have lost another Semi-Final, I don’t even want to count anymore, it’s very saadening. Atleast they didn’t chose this time.
It was overcast, the lights were on and I didn’t understand the decision. This is what Bavuma said during the toss.
“[The weather] did come into consideration, but we’ve looked at our strengths as a team,” Bavuma says. “I’m not 100% fit but I think it’s got to be good enough. It’s massive, not something I dreamt of, coming into a semi-final carrying the hopes and aspirations of people back home. I don’t want to think about it too much, we have a game of cricket to focus on. The rugby team sent us a heartfelt message this morning.”
I think it was all dependent on just one man to get a good start and that’s what makes it hard to win, QDK. It was the dumbest delivery but Cummins did take a really good catch.
RVD couldn’t get a start or stay at the pitch.
It was a very surprising call, but he’s the captain and he probably felt the need for him to be there, but I saw this analyst who also served as strategist for the South African team for a while, he was saying that there was a catch Bavuma missed where he had to reach out, and I think I know which one, it’s the Inglis catch where he had to dive ahead and Pdogg said that well a fit Bavuma would’ve taken it and I trust him.
Reeza could’ve been a really good attacking batsmen, he played two matches and I think he did pretty decent, got a 50 ish score on one.
QDK bows out of ODI internationals!
What a crazy batsmen and opener he’s been and this was his stage, he could’ve extended his stay with the ODIs for maybe another match but Josh Hazelwood stopped the Quenten train.
I wish we had seen some fireworks in the last match.
He’s sitting in the second place with 594, with the highest score of 174 runs, Average of 59,40, SR 107.02, 4 – 100s, no fifties, with 57 – fours and 21 sixes.
The guy sitting on top has more runs but QDK looks more attacking.
If it wasn’t was Head and Warner, Australia would’ve crashed, somehow they both want to attack, it was until the 6th over when they were 60 to dismiss Warner fo 29(18)
Maxwell has to fire, and he gets a little impatient and he fell for it twice, almost the same dismissal like Kuldeep got him
How does Steve Smith get out like that all the time, why would you play that shot when he’s theonly strong batsmen left in the middle
I know a lot of people hate Warner and fair enough understandable
Somehow the bowlers are coming to rescue their batting and especially Cummins who just stayed at the crease weathering storms.
Shamsi and Maharaj finally get the pitch they probably call their love!
Maharaj is quite brilliant, I wish he plays one more world cup maybe the T20 one?
Either way we will get to see him at the tests in December
Everyone seems to play safe with Maharaj because they know he’s been really good this year. I think Kuldeep Yadav is the only other spinner who actually earned a lot of eyeballs during the tournament. Zampa too ofcourse with 22 wickets.
These dismissals especially with a low score should be weighed in gold
There have been quite a few misses along the way, some catch drops, some really close ones like these.
I don’t understand how Bavuma held back Maharaj for so long, it’s because this old thinking that a left arm wrist spinner can’t bowl to a left-handed batsmen, and Maharaj gets him in the first ball.
He’s their youngest bowler, no one knew him before this world cup and look at him, he’s nailing those quick ones.
He got 2-47 today, the Inglis yorker was so accurate, to have Coetzee in the team instead of Nortje was not much of a failure in fact he proved that he’s one of the brightest stars in the future
He’s clocking 150!
He’s getting wickets!
He’s angrier and passionate than the other SA bowlers, like Jansen, there’s literally no expression.
He can bat, he got a decent 19 runs and I couldn’t believe he didn’t take the review, the ball was scrubbing off the shoulder, if he had stayed things would’ve probably been different. South Africa ma have added a 20-30 runs?
He’s definitely a stand out star apart from Rachin Ravindra!
Starc and Hazelwood bowling long spells to start within the powerplay, they seemed relentless with their attack and didn’t give them a lot of room to hit any runs.
Hazelwood was the most underrated bowlers of the day, he’s so consistent with his length, Starc and Cummins got 3 wickets each but Hazelwood had 3 maidens.
Travid Head? A part time bowler?
Zampa struggled today, went without a wicket. This pitch was giving a lot tot he spinners but Zampa couldn’t get anything today.
They field like their life is dependent on it but they bat like it’s all over, I can’t believe these guys are struggling with batting!
They were all in the circle during the powerplay, everyon was saving boundaries in the first 5 overs.
Warner always leads the charge in fielding, this time it was Cummins but Warner takes a really good one to dismiss Markram.
I think you know when the team is hungry just by looking at them field.
There were a some misfields in the South African side, Bavuma was not so fit, he missed one, there were also a lot of close ones to be fair.
I expected Klassen and Miller to take it deep and I was hoping that Klassen would
24-4 is the joint-3rd lowest score at the start of a men’s ODI century scored at 6 or lower
9-4, Kapil Dev, 175*, Ind v Zim, June 1983 (WC), 19-4, Nasir Hossain, 100, Ban v Pak, Dec 2011, 24-4, Neil McCallum, 121*, Sco v Ire, Apr 2009, 24-4, David Miller, 101, SA v Aus, 2023 (WC)
Coming in like that and making a 100, I think Miller is finally doing what he’s supposed to do and exactly when the team needed him.
It was a stunning knock. Under pressure in the semi-final and against one of the most relentless bowling attacks. And he hits a 6 to bring in the 100.
Klassen was able to support him, he really took on Zampa, completely disarmed him, and hit him over his head, that’s pretty unusual at least after the first couple of matches when he was still dealing with injuries and getting into a rhythm.
This is the stubborn, fighting Australia that we all know. They just don’t give up do they, even in the world of professionals, these guys are workhorses, they just keep at it and somehow they get the job done! When it needs to be, you don’t see many mistakes, remember at one point they were at the bottom of the points table, they stayed there for like 24 hours maybe after their 2 consecutive losses. And they did lose to South Africa but this time when it mattered the most they just got the job done!
They reached a World Cup final for the 8th time. We’ve only had 12 World Cups and they won it 5 times.
Everyone doubted Pat Cummins but comes to the crease as a batsman and finishes the job. Pat the finisher – First headingly, then his stand with Maxi against Afghanistan and now this! How are the australians still complaining about his captaincy?
He retained the Ashes!
He won the WTC championship against India!
And now they’re in the finals, I think its a brilliant record to have as a captain in the same year!
If you’ve seen the fielding, it speaks about how much they respect and follow their leader, just go back and look at them field in the powerplay!
I know many people hate the team becuase they’re not aggressive like they used to be, or most of them are hung up on the scandals or you just hate the team because they always win. But you have to give it to them, they put the brakes on all the big teams on big stages. They did it to India time and time again, most recently at the WTC, he’s done that England in England at the Ashes.
