Match 36 – The Aussies had the honor of knocking the English off the World Cup

Our Good, Bad and Wholesome Five Moments

M36-19

England's sixth defeat in seven games was Australia's fifth win in five. I heard this analyst I love following say that he was even surprised that they won that one single game. And I kinda subscribe to that fact because I just don’t understand this team at all! Australia 286 (Labuschagne 71, Green 47, Woakes 4-54) beat England 253 (Stokes 64, Malan 50, Zampa 3-21) by 33 runs

England Batting

England looked like they were waiting for the dew to set in, so they could speed up the run rate. I think that was way too late.

Joe Root, one of England’s indisputable greats across formats, produced an innings of such awfulness it truly deserves to be his last in colored clothing.

Jos Buttler failed again. Bairstow got out on the first ball.

Stokes and Malan, England were grinding out an 84-run stand for the third wicket, at a similar tempo to that with which Labuschagne and Steve Smith had revived Australia’s own innings, but then Malan just got greedy.

I think Stokes spawns into some sorta demon-slayer when it’s against Australia.

Though he had that terrible knock against India and the humiliating dismissal by Shami, this time, he was slower and made sure he was tempering his innings. I was really hoping for a well-fought 100 and a victory over their old Ashes nemesis. You can see that his left knee wasn’t looking the best; he was limping on and off. If he’s going to continue like this, make the injury worse, and then go for surgery and expect to be back by India tests, I think he’s dreaming.

I’ve never seen anyone come back from knee surgery that soon. It takes at least 4 months, So maybe the best case, since he’s a fighter he might actually come back to India only for the last two tests.

England bowlers

Adil Rashid and Chris Woakes bowled well and gave way to Ben Stokes’ almost heroics. While these efforts seemed promising, they’re still going home.

Aussies Missing!

Marsh and Maxi were missing and somehow the team managed to win? This is something else, I mean all that trash talk from England, Baz ball being included in the dictionary, and for what? They got beat by the somewhat handicapped team, well not really they still had most of their stars.

Australian batting

I have some mixed feelings about this part, I mean David Warner, at 37-38 years of age is actually the top 4th highest runs, and then you can keep scrolling, and then sitting comfortably on 19th is Marnus. I mean if you want to win a tournament like the World Cup

Marnus Test-tempo 71 proved to be the decisive score of the match, he kinda salvaged the batting with Smith at 44, Green at 47 and that’s about it, you can’t blame warner today, the man is really bringing it this tournament but today was just tough luck or maybe it’s that England mind block?

Adam Zampa's all-round performance

Adam Zampa the all-rounder. The wickets, the runs and the catches! He didn’t really start well this World Cup, in fact, the first two matches were kinda horrible for the entire team I guess, but that’s what you like about Australia they’re workhorses, they’re fighters, and they actually stayed in the 10th spot in the points table for like 24 hrs. And now they’re in the Top 4.

I mean they’re like professionals even among the professionals, they just find a way to get their shit together and work it! I saw Zaltzman’s tweet, if you don’t know Andy Zaltzman, please listen to his podcast The Bugle, which btw is also a part of John Oliver’s origin story.
