Match 35 – Could Pakistan sneak into the final four?

Our Good, Bad and Wholesome Five Moments

M35-15

You know this is why I hate this whole Duckworth Lewis system, I get it it’s a league match but for God’s sake, NZ scored 400 runs! It’s one of the highest totals ever recorded in the game, it’s going in the record book but they lost the game! The Cricinfo and WinViz were both drunk, I think they’re still drunk showing an 86.35% win for NZ! Even with only 1 wicket down and Fakhar Zaman going crazy along with Babar at the crease it just seemed mental.

Pakistan's Bowling Issues

Pakistan bowling lineup issues. Wasim just giving away 60 runs for 3 wickets in a 400-run game is quite brilliant.

Haris Rauf and Shaheen were smashed across the ground. I didn’t quite understand if it was the bowling or the ground because there were some good balls but the way Rachin and Kane handled those balls just looked absolute class. The mentor and mentee just belting away bowlers.

The New Zealand Luck

Some teams like New Zealand and South always attract these bad joojoos. Losing by boundary count and now losing after scoring 400 runs? I think Kane also mentioned that they were aiming for 450, I mean imagine thinking that you are 50 runs short even after scoring 400 runs. RIDICULOUS.

Look it’s cool that Pakistan is keeping the tournament open and that team is like a wrench thrown into a bloody mixer but this match is just unbelievable.

Kane is Back!

Kane would have missed his century if he had just held back on that shot maybe he could’ve gotten his 100, and every time Kane got back after the umpteen injuries he performed. Last time he got a 78 against Bangladesh and now 95.

Rachin Ravindra's 3rd World Cup Century

It’s the third century for Rachin Ravindra!

It’s unbelievable that he came in as a replacement for Kanos and is sitting on the second-highest score in ICC World Cup. Many of us don’t even know him!

I never heard of him before the World Cup. He plays somewhat like Sachin, Saeed Anward or a young Kane even, I think he’s already his protege but what a way to use the opportunity he’s been given, look at some of his shots right here!

He’s just 23, he’ll be 24 on November 18th

He’s already scored 300+ runs in this World Cup, he’s some superhero batter who’s going to a long way.

I started looking at the highest run scorers in the last few World Cups who crossed 300.

1992 – 456 – M.Crowe was the highest

1996 – 523- Tendulkar (7 matches)

1999 – 461 – Dravid

2003 – 673- Tendulkar and 465- Ganguly

2007 – 659 – Hayden, 548  – Jaywardane, 539 – Ponting, 499 – Styris

2011 – 500 – Dilshan, 482 – Tendulkar

2015 – 547- Guptill, 541 – Sanga

2019 – 648 – Rohit, 647 – Warner, 606 – Shakib, 578 – Kane Williamson, 556 – Root, 532 – Bairstow, 507 – Finch

2023  – Rachin – 523* (by his 8th match)  just behind 545 by QDk

And guess what no one was as young as this kid. Well actually Sachin was around the same age and he was also the captain later that year I think.

1

Fakhar Zaman

Fakhar Zaman’s coming-of-the-age innings!

I mean he probably single-handedly gave Pakistan another day to fight! If it wasn’t for him and his 3 sixes from Ish Sodhi’s over (20 runs), they wouldn’t have won this match. They were leading by 21 runs and that was everything.
