Match 21 – India challenged but comes out victorious

Our Good, Bad and Wholesome Five Moments

M21-11

India was finally challenged a bit? But the chase master denied a win! There was a brief appearance of fog interrupting the play, and I was nervous again because anything related to weather could trigger any Indian fan. Jadeja couldn't finish the game back in Manchester four years back. It's only fair that he hit the winning runs today. Poetic justice of sorts." He did that for CSK in the finals, last two balls and he hits a 6 and 4! Jadeja can really change games when the team needs him.

India fielding and Fog envelopes

Not an original idea really but ICC should have banned this venue after the very first game. The outfield is so very bad, it can end someone’s world cup with a freak injury. Why are we still playing here? We have Aus vs NZ here left.

Audience: starts cribbing about vuvuzelas and the outfield😡

Daryl!

Daryl Mitchel stands tall with a 100!

In other news, Rohit laughing at Daryl, when he got hit with the fast one from Kuldee and then that missed catch for a four was satisfying to watch. That’s what you get for laughing.

Edit: YES YES BRING IN THE DOWNVOTES!

New Zealand batting

Rachin Ravindra, showed some class., think of all the superlatives and it will not be enough, he batted like he’s Kane mama! He scored a solid 75 to weather the storm with Daryl MItchell

He got two close calls, one off Shami, a nick and Siraj’s almost LBW. Both great review calls

Daryl Mitchell picked up the tempo and was the only constant who weathered the storm and kicked in a ton!

2

Indian bowling!

Siraj dismissed Conway for a duck!

Shami’s brilliant takedown of Young!

Ravindra barely escapes

We saw a rarity that Jaddu dropped a sitter! I think the India and the rest of the world will forgive him

Kuldeep gets Latham the captain.

Santner doesn’t last long against Shami

Matt Henry was left befuddled for a golden duck!

Shami almost had that hattrick

Sharma calls for Glenn’s top edge.

When Kohli took that Daryl Mitchell’s catch is when we got some content for Kohli cam! The classic aggressive Kohli is back, so we can expect some decent fireworks!

Bowling In the last 10 overs was so good. Each of the 4 bowlers did their job. Also kudos to Rohit too. He stopped Kuldeep’s last over when Mitchell was In the 90s and bowled Bumrah and fast bowlers. Mitchel could have targeted Kuldeep and gotten his 100 quickly. But bowling Bumrah made his cautious and other players were not able to accelerate.

Shami after the match — 5-54. “When you come back after a long time to the XI it is important to get confidence early. That first game helped get that confidence,” he says. “Its not too hard (waiting by the sidelines) if your team is doing well. They are your teammates and if they are doing well then you should be supporting them. If its in the team’s interest, I’m okay with it. The wickets are important because we were top 2 teams of the World Cup were playing.

M21-10

1

Chasemaster Kohli

23 centuries and  90.4 average in run chases.

He’s such a technical batter, the shots he plays are straight batted and I barely saw him play any unorthodox shots like even a sweep, I barely remember him sweeping or playing that Root shot, scooping on behind the wicketkeeper.

Rohit started strong with Gill and looked unfazed.

They were timing the ball beautifully but their own distinct styles

Rohit was 4 runs short of his 50!

Gill soon follows.

Shreyas as expected was caught to a short ball!

Kohli walks in and starts with a cool cover drive or somewhat cuts the ball. He started very slow, steadied the ship along with KLR.

KL’s dismissal was a bit surprising because he was stepping out of the crease.

It felt like Kohli just buried SKY, but I thought he sacrified his wicket very sensibly. And you have to give it to the NZ fielding, it worked, that was a good hit!

But Kohli didn’t disappoint, his 95 was as good as a century for me.

Jadeja just finishes an easy one with a boundary
