The entire Wankhede bowl was at it’s highest boiling point, you could see the players being visibility affected by it, the English players seemed knackered and weighed down. Their fielding looked ex
After winning the toss, Buttler opted to bowl first, a decision that looked increasingly dubious as South Africa’s batters cashed in on an excellent batting surface.
Wood + Atkinson would a decent partnership! Wood gets a 50. Atkinson looked good until Maharaj tricked him. I think they were just trying to get as close to the total to avoid a shameful NRR but the bowlers and the 400 runs they put up were just too much to handle.
Topley’s injury caught up to him and we didn’t see him come back Topley left the field 3.5 overs into his spell after injuring his finger attempting to stop a ball struck back at him by van der Dussen. He came back and removed Markram when Bairstow took that wobbling catch.
I think England took it a bit lightly after Miller’s wicket and gave away too many runs, just couldn’t catch a breath
Reeza Hendricks makes an appearance and knocks a handsome 85 runs, it’s very promising for the team to see their players just walk in and almost get a century. It’s a good problem to have
Rassie Van Der Dussen contributes his part, he looks in good shape!
Markram was stopped at 42 with one of the best catches int he match, Bairstow wobbles and completes the catch.
After Miller fails to stay at the crease, I figured this is the SA collapse we were waiting to see, Miller is consistently not contributing, he just gets a 5
The batting momentum I thought would break here in the 37th over with Klassen on 40 and then the start of tailenders starting with Jansen but oh boy were we in for a surprise. The almighty Jansen, where were you during the IPL?
The last 10 overs of the SA innings were nothing short of madness, and thanks to this guy!
Jansen gets 75, his highest ODI score in just 42 balls!
Klassen went berserk; even the heat couldn’t stop him! He was slower in his first 40 runs but the way he accelerated was scary to watch!
It was a 61-ball century with enough fireworks
The brutality of Klaasen’s 109 from just 67 balls all told matched the harshness of the heat and humidity which had also left England bowler David Willey cramping throughout South Africa’s innings, ending on 399 for 7 and requiring the second-highest successful run chase in ODI history.
Klaasen’s innings included 12 fours and four sixes as he shared a 151-run sixth-wicket partnership with Marco Jansen from just 77 balls, one of two century stands for South Africa with Reeza Hendrick.
Klaasen was too exhausted to get back to the field, he was seen looking worse, draped in a towel.
England lost their top three for just 24 runs in six overs. Jansen dismissed Joe Root and Dawid Malan. Nggidi gets Bairstow
Ben Stokes, back after missing his side’s first two matches with a hip injury, tossed his bat into the air in frustration after he spooned a Kagiso Rabada delivery straight back to the bowler to become the third England batter in succession to fall for single-figures as England slumped to 38 for 4.
Gerald Coetzee conceded 16 runs off his first over but Jos Buttler’s 4, 4, and 6. I was excited to see a JB classic! But Coetzee responded with two wickets in the first three balls of his next over when he had England’s skipper caught behind and Harry Brook.
The result returned South Africa to winning ways after their shock defeat at the hands of Netherlands blighted victories from their opening two matches and left England’s hopes of featuring at the business end of the tournament on a knife edge.
