Mohsin Khan Shines Among the Death Bowlers, Dedicates to His Father

Lucknow Super Giants 177 for 3 (Stoinis 89*, Krunal 49*, Behrendorff 2-30) beat Mumbai Indians 172 for 5 (Kishan 59, Bishnoi 2-26) by 5 runs

Mohsin Khan, the fast-bowling sensation of Lucknow Super Giants, dedicated his match-winning heroics against Mumbai Indians to his father, who had recently been discharged from the ICU after a challenging health battle. Speaking after successfully defending 11 runs in the final over of the chase, Mohsin expressed how his father’s presence in the hospital had motivated him to deliver a memorable performance on the cricket field.

“My father was unfortunately in the ICU and had just been discharged yesterday, so I played this match for him,” Mohsin revealed. He believed his father was likely watching the game on television and shared, “I played for him. He has been in the ICU for the past ten days. I’m sure he must be very happy now.”

In a post-match interview, Mohsin also reflected on a difficult year that he had faced. Despite an impressive debut IPL season in 2022, where he claimed 14 wickets in nine matches with an economy rate of 5.97, Mohsin’s cricket journey took a challenging turn due to a serious shoulder injury that sidelined him for a year. He elaborated on the ordeal, recounting the moment when he feared not being able to continue playing cricket due to the severity of the injury. During the press conference, Mohsin shared, “It was an extremely tough phase, and at one point, I had almost lost hope of returning to cricket. My injury was so severe that I couldn’t even lift my hand, let alone bowl. I couldn’t straighten my arm, and it was a very concerning medical situation.” He added, “It was quite alarming; the doctor even mentioned that if I had delayed seeking treatment by another month, I might have had to face the possibility of amputation.”

Reflecting on his remarkable comeback, Mohsin credited his physiotherapy team for their dedicated efforts in his recovery. He revealed, “My physiotherapist worked diligently with me. It was a medical condition, quite unique. My artery and nerve were both blocked.” During the match, Mohsin’s performance displayed remarkable resilience and skill. After conceding 21 runs in his first two overs, he was entrusted with the crucial task of bowling the final over. Employing a combination of slower balls and well-executed yorkers, Mohsin conceded just five runs. His disciplined effort earned Lucknow Super Giants two valuable points and elevated them to the third position on the points table. “I was focused on executing what I practice regularly, which is my strength,” Mohsin revealed. He further explained his strategy, sharing, “I maintained my calmness and didn’t pay attention to the scorecard. My sole focus was to bowl six good deliveries, irrespective of the required runs. I focused on mixing slower balls and yorkers due to the pitch’s grip and the ball’s reverse swing.”

Mohsin expressed his gratitude to the team management for their faith in him, despite his previous subpar performance. “I am thankful to the team management for their belief in me. Despite my previous performance, they trusted me in this game,” he acknowledged, mentioning Gautam Gambhir, Vijay Dahiya, and the entire support staff.

Krunal Pandya, the stand-in captain of Lucknow Super Giants, praised Mohsin’s mental fortitude. “Mohsin possesses an enormous heart, a trait that propels athletes to excel,” Krunal remarked. He commended Mohsin’s mental strength, given his journey of overcoming adversity and returning to IPL action after a year-long hiatus due to surgery. Krunal described Mohsin as having “a big heart,” highlighting how such a characteristic can be instrumental in a player’s success.
