Rajasthan Royals 202 for 5 (Jaiswal 77, Jurel 34, Deshpande 2-42) beat Chennai Super Kings 170 for 6 (Dube 52, Gaikwad 47, Zampa 3-22, Ashwin 2-35) by 32 runs
Rajasthan Royals bounced back in style after two consecutive losses, reclaiming the top spot on the IPL points table with an emphatic 32-run victory over Chennai Super Kings.
Opting to bat first, Royals got off to a fiery start as Yashasvi Jaiswal blazed his way to an impressive 77 off 43 balls. Despite a brief comeback by Super Kings in the middle overs, late hitting heroics from Dhruv Jurel (34 off 15) and Devdutt Padikkal (27* off 13) powered Royals to a formidable total of 202 for 5, becoming the first team to cross the 200-run mark in Jaipur.
Matheesha Pathirana showcased his express-paced yorkers but luck was not on his side, conceding 48 runs in his four overs, with 28 runs coming in shots where the batters needed more control.
Chasing a mammoth target, Super Kings struggled to find their rhythm. Adam Zampa and R Ashwin put on a spin masterclass, sharing five crucial wickets. Shivam Dube fought valiantly, but his efforts were in vain as the required run rate proved insurmountable.
Despite being an away game, Super Kings seemed to have more supporters in the stands, but the Royals’ opening duo of Jaiswal and Jos Buttler remained undeterred. Jaiswal’s explosive start set the tone, dismantling the seamer Akash Singh and propelling Royals to 64 without loss. Even after Buttler’s dismissal, Jaiswal continued to dominate, maintaining his attacking approach. He displayed no signs of slowing down and added 37 runs off 22 balls once the fielding restrictions were lifted. With Trent Boult sidelined due to injury, Zampa stepped up to the challenge and made an instant impact, claiming the wicket of Devon Conway in his very first over.
Ruturaj Gaikwad tried to revive Super Kings’ innings but Zampa struck again, removing him at a crucial juncture. R Ashwin further dented their hopes by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu in quick succession. Although Dube and Moeen Ali showed some resistance, Zampa returned to haunt Super Kings by dismissing Moeen at a crucial moment. Dube continued to fight, hitting boundaries and sixes, but the steep target proved too much to chase down.
In the end, Rajasthan Royals emerged victorious with a well-deserved win, showcasing their dominance in the tournament and reaffirming their position at the top of the points table.
